Winter 2005

The Boulder County Board of Commissioners and the Clerk & Recorder of Boulder County have empanelled a committee to investigate the election of 2004. This is known as the Elections Review Committee. The ERC meets every Friday at 1pm at the Office of the Clerk & Recorder (1750 33rd Street, Boulder), with two exceptions. On February 11th and 25th, the ERC will meet in the Commissioner's hearing room in the Boulder County Courthouse on Pearl Street. The agendas; minutes; and documents of the Election Review Committee can be found on the ElectionReviewCommittee menu.

The commissioners will decide at this meeting whether to purchase the Hart InterCivic optical scan system recommended by the County Clerk and Recorder.

Boulder County Commissioners meeting

In the commissioners' hearing room, third floor, Boulder County Courthouse, 14th and Pearl streets in Boulder.

At the Jan. 29 public hearing, Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Linda Salas is expected to recommend that the county purchase a paper ballot-based voting system from Hart InterCivic for use in Boulder County elections, including the 2004 primary and general elections.

Salas will make her recommendation to the commissioners, who are responsible for approving the purchase, and Hart InterCivic Vice President and General Manager Neil McClure will give a presentation on how the system operates and answer questions.

The public is encouraged to attend.

What: Review voting system requirements. Discuss the Boulder County Election Division's recommendation to purchase a Hart InterCivic voting system.

Why: Boulder County's most important voting system decision in a generation is impending. We need to understand the facts and options. We need to take a position and prepare for the rapidly approaching January 29th Public Hearing, where the Boulder County Clerk will recommend the Hart InterCivic system.

Boulder Computer Voting Citizen's Group Public Meeting

Come to learn about the background of the local and national situation regarding electronic voting.

Attendees will include local citizens who participated in the Boulder County Citizens Committee on Electronic Voting vendor presentations and have tried the systems and talked with the vendor's salespeople.

Learn about the grassroots movement to ensure every vote is counted by requiring a voter verified paper ballot in every election.
